Pastor's Thoughts: December

Christmas Time at NHBC

It is that time of year again, time to celebrate Christmas. I absolutely love the Christmas season. For me, growing up, Christmas was all about getting gifts. I did not understand the real reason for celebrating Christmas. Once I came to faith in Christ, I began to understand the true reason for Christmas. Now, celebrating Christmas with my church family is one of my favorite aspect of the Christmas season. There are a several events that are happening this month. First, there will be a Christmas party in the fellowship hall of the church on Friday, Dec. 8th at 6:00 p.m. There will be a gift exchange and a potluck dinner. Second, there will be Christmas Caroling on Wednesday, Dec. 20th at 6:00 p.m. Third, we will have the culmination of our advent series with our Christmas Eve Candle Light Service on Sunday Dec. 24th at 6:00 p.m. However, you and your family like to enjoy the Christmas season, I hope that you will come and participate in some of these events and we would be able to celebrate Christmas together as a Church family.

Advent Sermon Series

Last Sunday we began our Advent series which will take us all the way to Christmas Eve. As we celebrate the advent of Christ's birth, we will look at the different promises that Jesus fulfilled in His coming. This past Sunday we saw the promise of hope. We know that Jesus is the only true hope for this world because He is the only One who can save us from our sins. Next week we will look at God's promise of peace from the prophet Micah 5:1-5a and see that Jesus is the fulfillment of that promise. The following week will focus on how Jesus is the fulfillment God's promise of love from Zephaniah 3:14-20. Then, we will see God's promise of joy in Isiah 61:1-11. Finally, on Christmas Eve, we will see God's promise of salvation. Our Advent series will show us that Jesus is the fulfillment of all of God's promises. I pray that you will be blessed in this focused time of looking at how God has blessed us so greatly through the precious gift of His Son, Jesus Christ.
